here's a little bit about it:
2ghz intel core duo, 2gb ram, 80gb hd, new battery, top and bottom case, lots of programs, very clean. but now it feels kind of slow and the hard drive is very small. i have a half year left of college, so i'm not sure if i should get a new one right now. also, i have an old laptop that i can use in the mean time. what do you guys think? Will I be losing money if i sell it right now for around $600 or should i just keep it a couple more years and then when i get a new one use it as a backup?

Why not just keep it and upgrade the HDD? A bigger 320 GB one will cost you around 50-60 dollars.
