Hi Fellow Mac users.

I use Safari to access my web mail from work. Often having to download Word and Excel (Mac) files. It would be really useful if when I click the word, excel doc in safari for it to open in its correct program rather then downloading to the download folder, for me then top have t click on the download folder, then find the item, then click the item and wait.

Everything else about Macs I love but this one annoying feature, there must be a way????

Thanks for any help yo may have.
Dan

When you click on the link, don't you get a dialogue box that ask what you want to do? IE. Download the file or Open it? I don't use Safari but most browsers have that feature.

Either that...or you can try looking at the download window and right click on the file. It should give you options to show it in the finder or open it.

Open up Safari's Preferences - on the General tab - place a check mark next to 'Open "safe" files after downloading'.

I have checked open safe files, however that does not cover MS Word Mac files or Excel. Any other ideas?

Only other idea I have would be to set up the account in mail.app instead of going online.

Because Word and other Office files are not safe. They can contain macro code, or VBA code, that can potentially harm your computer.

Microsoft does not think this is an issue. Its security track record speaks for itself.
