Hi, could somebody please help me.
I cannot write to my new hard drive. I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.11 and when I try to put files onto the hard disk it comes up with an error message saying "the item LG_EXT_HDD could not be moved because it cannot be modified"
I have tried typing "chmod -R 700 /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD" in terminal and it just comes up with this
"chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD/autorun.inf: Read-only file system
chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD/ICON.ico: Read-only file system
chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD/System Volume Information/MountPointManagerRemoteDatabase: Read-only file system
chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD/System Volume Information/_restore{A99C905F-E27F-4915-856B-5BB009DEA9CE}/RP1/change.log: Read-only file system
chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD/System Volume Information/_restore{A99C905F-E27F-4915-856B-5BB009DEA9CE}/RP1: Read-only file system
chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD/System Volume Information/_restore{A99C905F-E27F-4915-856B-5BB009DEA9CE}: Read-only file system
chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD/System Volume Information: Read-only file system
chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD: Read-only file system
kristina-chapleos-computer:~ krissie$ sudo chmod a+wxr /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD
Password:
chmod: /Volumes/LG_EXT_HDD: Read-only file system"
when I use disk utility it will not let me change permissions.
How can I change the permissions of my disk in terminal, does anybody know?
I'd be really really grateful as I have run out of space on my laptop!!!
Thanks,
Krissie.
