Do you have MobileMe? If you do, is the account attached to your phone?

MobileMe is required for the find my phone and remote wipe features, so if you are not a subscriber, it will not function.

It's unfortunate that the Apple Genius was unable to assist you. Is your phone still under warranty? If it is you should insist that they either repair it or replace it.

Barring that, I would suggest restoring your iPhone through iTunes. Once the restore is complete, DO NOT restore a backup of your phone as the problems you are having may reoccur.

After you have done that, your phone will need to be set up again with all of your accounts and stuff. Hopefully that will fix your issue.
