Hello,
I can use internet with my imac(mac os tiger installed) modem device.(this modem uses the TV cable to connect internet)

I bought a new laptop. Windows XP is installed on it. Now I want to use internet with both laptop and imac.

I have also 8 port RJ45 ethernet switch. I plugged the ethernet cables coming from PC and laptop to the switch. I also plugged the ethernet cable coming from the modem to the switch. However it does not work.

The device that is firstly plugged to the switch can connect to internet but the other one can not be connect to internet. Because it tries to get a new IP from the host.

So can you suggest me a solution?
Thank you.

Your Mac's Specs
Mini (2014, 2018, 2020), MBA (2020), iPad Pro (2018), iPhone 13 Pro Max, Watch (S6)
For a switch to work, you have to have multiple IP addresses to start with. Your ISP will only give you one so you will need a router to create multiple IP addresses so each of your machines can connect to the Internet.

You could also plug your iMac into the switch with ethernet, then go to the Network prefrences and have it share out the ethernet connection wirelessly to the PC, or vica versa (share wireless through ethernet).

I would really suggest spending about $50 and picking up a router, as DB and vansmith said.
