NEWLink Laptop Cooling Mat: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

My Macbook gets a little warm these days and am looking for a way to keep it cool.

Has any-one tried these laptop cooling mats?

It looks like an inexpensive way to prolong the life of the computer without the wires and noisy fans.

Any opinions?

Am trying to find out if they work before I bother buying one.

I've never understood the obsession to keep laptops cool. Personally I doubt a few degrees is going to impact my notebook within its useful lifetime.

I'd rather just buy AppleCare, forget about the pads and get it fixed if it really does have a meltdown at any point.

Depends on what you use them for. Basic home use doesn't really get things too hot, but if you are doing major number crunching then the CPU can get quite hot and stay that way for a while, which is not really good for it.

Rather than a cooling mat or cooling device that uses USB power, I recommend a notebook stand instead. A good notebook stand allows air to flow underneath, but more importantly, gives protection against nasty spills. Also provides a better viewing angle.

Griffin Elevator is what I use.

Regards.

I use a Moshi Zefr' when I run programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver. It helps keep the cpu fan from doing all the work. I was surprised how much heat is transfered to the aluminum in this device. I don't think it will make my MacBook last forever, but it does keep it slightly cooler, elevates the screen a tad, and puts the keyboard at a comfortable angle for tying.
