I have OSX panther can I run Bootcamp, it says it’s for tiger so I’m thinking no.
If not is there some other (preferably free) program that can do the same thing?

Thanks. :)

I believe the only thing you can run on panther is virtual pc.

Just to be clear, it's not the OS that is holding you back, it is the lack of an Intel processor (Jaguar only ran on PPC machines). So, do NOT upgrade in the hopes that you will be able to run Boot Camp.

While Virtual PC is no longer under development, another product called iEmulator will also allow you to run Windows, albeit very slowly.

I could care less about windows; I’ve already got an XP that is my main machine.:Smirk:

I’m trying to install Xunbuntu Linux so I can run a freeware video surveillance program.

The entire HD has been allocated for OSX, so there’s no room to install Xubuntu, so I can either delete it, which I don’t want to do because if the program doesn’t work good then I’m stuck with a Linux computer and no one will buy a linux computer.

I installed it on an exsternal HD I have, does a G3 have more than one HD slot?

You can use Disk Utility to partition your drive to make room for the Xubuntu install. Afterward, you may be able to use rEFIt to setup a dual boot between Panther and Xubuntu. Boot Camp is not going to work.

It's probably best to take a trip to the Ubuntu forums and read up on some of the problems involved installing any version of Ubuntu (Xubuntu) on a PPC machine. You can pick up advice and hints on how to do it.

Installing Linux on an X86 (Intel) machine is fairly straight forward and yes, Boot Camp can be used, however, a PPC is different.

Ubuntu forums.

Regards.
