My old troubled external hard drive was named "B." I am about to replace "B" with a new external hard drive. My question is: Can I safely name my new external hard drive "B" without any legacy of the problems I had with the old "B" or should I use a new name? Thank you for your help

I don't think it will be a problem. I have four WD My Book drives and they used to be all named MY BOOK (the default name) on the desktop when plugged in at the same time.

If you had something installed there or pointing to the old drive named B it might not be able to find it, but that wouldn't matter regardless of the name.
