So I was just wondering if it would be possible to add the GeForce 9600m GT to the lower end 15" MBP. I wouldn't really be interested in doing it because I don't really do anything graphically intensive, but I was just curious if it would be possible to ever add a discrete gpu down the road?

No. GPU and CPU are soldered to the Motherboard. Can't upgrade, unless you are highly skilled at de-soldering. Even then there is high risk of damaging the computer, so it's not worth it.
