Missing RAM in System Profiler

my ibook g3 on 10.3.8 has a built-in 128 & and additional 512 mb ram. Recently rather than 640, it displays only 384mb. So I took it out and reinserted, bootup, it detected and says 640 but whenever i restart computer it jumps back to 384 again :( any idea whats wrong ??

sounds like a stick of bad ram, is it new? how old? under warranty? I suggest contacting where you got it for a replacement.

Run the Apple Hardware Test from your installation CDs...it will tell you if something's wrong with your RAM.
