I wanted to ask a question. I know the size limits of sigs, but I wanna know about advertisements(not really) in our sigs, do they count toward the site, or as part of our sig? for example, my sig links to macin-talk.com, but what about a small banner under it announcing tiger and acting as a link to apples tiger feature page?
see attached image I made.

Yeah, it does, they mean that here for bandwidth reasons I guess

To answer your question, hotlinking is not allowed unless you own the webspace or have permission of the webspace owner to use their bandwidth for your pictures.

As for having the Tiger button, that would not be permitted because of the 1 image per signature rule.

It's not for our bandwidth but it is for other reasons. The two main ones are:

  • Copyright Infringement: If you're linking to somone else's work without their permission, you are breaking copyright law.
  • Bandwidth Theft: Stealing bandwidth from someone's server without permission is just wrong, if not illegal. Unlike some other boards that do allow this, we don't believe just because you can do it because the server owner doesn't know how to protect their images, you should do it. It's just not right.

I learned here:
http://www.foood.net/tutorials/bubble-1.htm

The tutorial above gives you the idea of how to do that effect. It's just a gradient from white to transparent, which is easily done in Photoshop CS. Once you get the hang of it, you can really make some nice stuff.
