Possible 'recent items' fibbery

Dear all,

Recently I noticed some...shall we say 'strange' items appear on the 'recent items' list on my macbook. They were jpg files with odd names - and when I clicked on them, nothing appeared.

The person I share the laptop with told me about how, since we are on a shared wireless network, they probably belong to someone else on the network - and that things that other people on the network open can appear in my recent items list.

I personally think this is impossible and he is actually the one who opened the files. However, I want to keep an open mind and I want to believe him. He's a good employee afterall.

Does anyone know if this is possible? Or am I being taken for an idiot?

Thanks in advance,

Night x

Your recent items list is unique to your account. It sounds to me like your friend opened the pictures and then deleted them. No way someone on the same network but a different computer could use your account to open a file then trash it. Why don't you create a separate user account for him? Then he can open and trash any files he wants. It was probably porn or something he was embarrassed about.

Agreed with Oneironaut. In my years of using OSX I have never seen anything under recent items that was not opened on the Mac I was using and the account I was using. Someone opened something and then zapped it.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the replies.

I don't want to put him on the spot or to make him 'lose face' so I'll keep quiet about it.

I've known this guy for years and I'm really shocked he'd lie about something so silly - even if it is porn, it's still silly. Well, maybe not for him.

So, it's for sure then...no possible way around that he might be telling the truth?

'Recent Items' really is unique to the account?

Yeah it is unique to the account, I'd just setup a second account for him it's nice to keep things apart at time, besides you won't have to bring this subject again.
