Linux Brightness Problem?

Hey I have a MacBook Pro triple booting Leopard, Vista, and Ubuntu 9.04. When I start it up the brightness is dim at about 20%. Every time I turn the brightness up to 100% it goes back down to 20% in a few seconds. Can anyone help me with this?
*Edit* Oh yeah and it's the Intel 2006 MacBook
