I have a follow-up to one of my recent questions: When I'm switching a HDD from one iBook to another, what do I need to do before I take the HDD out of the old iBook?

Do I just pop in the os x disc and go ahead and install the new operating system (thus erasing the old stuff) before I physically take the HDD out and put it into the other iBook? Or, do I just take the HDD out without doing anything to it and put it in the new iBook, then pop in the os x disc?

not sure .. I fully understand exactly what you are wanting to do

are you putting a different hard drive in the old iBook?

are you wanting to save any data?

you can just take the HDD out put in the new iBook and do a fresh install
if you would like OS X will ask if you want to back up the current system
or you can erase and install fresh ..

hope that helps..

if they are similar systems the new iBook may just boot up to the old OS X

Thanks for the response. You actually answered my question. I'm just hoping to do a clean install and start from scratch.
