Intermittently our backups are failing with the following errors:

File / was not found, or could not be accessed.

These errors always refer to .rsrc files that are stored centrally on a Solaris server. The errors suggest that the file(s) don't exist when the backup takes place.

I know that .rsrc files are Mac resource files but my questions are:

Are .rsrc files constantly being updated?
Do .rsrc files get deleted / re-created for any reason?

TIA.

Closer than you think.
Your Mac's Specs
Performa 6116 2GBSCSI 8MB OS 7.5.3
Resource file do get updated when they file they are associated with gets opened.

What is your backup software? I'd suggest a Mac friendly software to allow you to backup all Mac data successfully. Even if you do a disk to disk dump to an image file on an ext HD and then back that up to tape (if that's what you're doing). Backing up Mac data to an HFS image will preserve all resource files. Then the single image file can be archived.

Respect the resource files. Your Mac users will thank you.
