No offense, I get paid tomorrow and if this is true I will call them up. Has anyone else heard of this?

I have a Quicksilver 2002 with a new drive and I am on the third set of software that fails to install. I realize now that I cant use other model bootable discs but I just got a set that say Power Mac G4 and welovemacs website list this model discs as compatible with my G4 2002, but the following happens when I try to install.

9.2.1 install boots, shows the Mac os screen, gives me a mouse cursor and gets 1/4" of progress before freezing and the mouse disappears.

10.0.4 install shows a smiley mac computer, then a rotating cd then a broken folder.

I have a fresh partitioned harddrive in the computer.

If this is true about getting a retail disc for 19.99, I will order one on the spot in the morning.

Well, I called in and was shocked, I was told that mine shipped with 10.1.2, and they no longer provide that disc any more and he told me that I could get 10.3 or higher. He offered me 10.5.6 Full retail International DVD for $16.00 + tax at $1.12 for a total of $17.12 shipped via fedex for free.

Be very, very wary buying Leopard for that little as it is bound to be an illegal copy! Apple will not supply disc for a machine that old as I could not get them for my FW800 model either.

Any version of OS X, suggest Panther OS X.3 or Tiger OS X.4, will need to be what is known as a full retail install version, which is a black disc. Not the silver grey like you no doubt have now.

OS X.4 will sell on eBay and such for about $100 still, OS X.3 for about $80.00.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I called 1-800-MY-APPLE as listed on Apple website.

I requested replacement media for my Powermac due to having to have the hard drive replaced and I dont have the original disc. Apple sold it to me for $17.12 shipped via Fedex, and includes something like 60 or 90 days of free software support.

Being that this machine retailed for 2999 when it was new in 2002, it would make sense that they would be willing to send me the dvd for that little.

Still doubt it will be OS X.5.6 for $17.12.

Machine came new with OS X.1.2 and OS 9.1 so that is what you may well get.

No problem, I will make sure that I post up a pic when the dvd arrives. I hope you are not this skeptical because you paid full retail? which then I would understand.

I am not surprised that Apple offered you that. They are pretty good on customer service. Please let us know when you get the CD!

I did the same and called 1-800-Apple and was charged the same for Tiger 4.11. for my iBooks 466mhz/900mhz,had to pay tax too because I live in Cali. I received my DVDs in two days. They will say "replacement DVD not for resale" on them. I was really suppised too since I saw retail copies on Ebay for around $200 to $300. I would have paid Apple $100 for a retail copy!

Excellent outcome. Great job. I lost my restore disk and they sent me a replacement one too. Looks exactly like yours except not a full retail version.
