X3: Terran Conflicts crashing in Windows (via Bootcamp)

Hi
I am running X3: Terran Conflicts on my Macbook (2008 aluminium model, 13.3" screen, 4GB RAM, 2.4GHZ) via bootcamp on Windows XP SP3. However the game seems to crash after only a few minutes in. I have tried setting the graphics settings to low but it doesn't help.
I formatted my Bootcamp partition in FAT format, could this have something to do with it?
Any ideas?

p.s. Unfortunately wasn't aware of the rumours that a MacOS version of Terran Conflict is due out until after I bought the game!

Think I've answered my own post - doesn't seem to crash if I avoid using the track pad and use an external mouse instead.
