I accidently trashed Safari on my old powerbook g4, is there a way to download it without using the back- up discs? my optical drive is shot and all I have is an external

You'll need to borrow another machine (PC is OK but make sure you download the OS X version) that has a working web browser, copy the DMG file on a thumb drive and then transfer it to your machine and install.
