Sudden Motion Sensor\hard drive

Could anyone please answer this query:

I going to buy the new MacPro 13" and immediately change the hard drive.


I found this on the net:

160GB serial ATA hard drive running at 5400 rpm, with Sudden Motion Sensor;


Does anyone know if the 'sudden motion sensor' is built in the Mac or in the hard drive itself.


So, would it be best to buy a hard drive with or without the 'free fall sensor'.

The accelerometer is built into the MacBook, but i cant imagine two doing any harm

That said, I put a 500GB Seagate drive (with force sensing) in my new unibody 17" and gave it a decent test involving some moving around and flipping it over while running and there were no issues. I have read that some Macbooks coming off the assembly line now have these types of drives in them anyway.

If you do have a problem, that site has a workaround.

Is that what that "click" sound is when I pick up and move my MacBook Pro occasionally?
