Ok I just had a crazy idea. I love my Santa Rosa 17" 2.4ghz MBP with the high res screen option that I have been using since late 2007. The only downside to it is that the screen is very dull compared to the LED backlit ones but I love the desktop real estate.
Does anyone know if it is possible to source the OEM LCD panel that is on say either the glare or anti-glare 17" Unibodies and then have it fitted to my MBP? It should be possible as it is just the LCD panel and not the case as well.
