People continue to send me files in Office 2007 and I can't open them.

Is it safe to install the two files listed in the subject line?

I downloaded them from Microsoft when my computer asked if I wanted to download the converter.

I have them downloaded, but have not installed them on my computer.

Please advise.

THANK YOU.

Yes, it's safe to install them. However, you might want to ask whoever is sending you the Office files saved in the XML format, to instead save them in compatibility mode. The XML format creates documents of smaller size but it winds up being a big headache for folks who do not have either Office 2007 or Office 2008.

Regards.

Do I need both of them?

Maybe I won't download XML???? I am confused as to what the programs do.

At work I always save as: Word 97-2003....is that what you mean by compatibility mode?

THANKS for your reply.

Install both. One is an Office 2004 security update while the other provides compatibility for the XML format.

Ohhhh....Ok...I thought the first one was an upgrade that would make it compatible with Office 2007....thank you very much.

Just tried to install the Office 2004 update and it says it can't find the correct program....hmmmmm....any thoughts?

THANKS again.

Try installing the latest update (11.5.5) for Office 2004. I don't know why 11.5.0 would not install unless there's a problem with your Office 2004 file folder structure.

I've had to completely remove Office 2008 and reinstall in order to get an update to work. And recently had a problem with the latest Office 2008 update.

You may have to wind up uninstalling 2004 and reinstalling it in order to install those updates. Anyway, give 11.5.5 a try. Download from here.

Regards.

THANKS - I will give it a try...I appreciate your consistent help.

If it still won't work, will I be ok with the one I have and the converter? I really don't want to have to do the uninstall and reinstall...not sure I know how to do that.

Another Question

It says to remove the update installer from the hard disk.

How do I do that? Just delete it?
