I'm looking to start an email discussion list to serve media groups I'm involved with in my local area,

was wondering if anyone knows of any decent free services or methods for going about this. Alot of people say they use Yahoo groups, but I've heard that there is a problem with porn spam on there? I've also noticed Topica, but that looks overwhelmingly commercial. I just need a very simple email to one address-then fowarded to the list setup, without loads of spam and advertising! And ideally don't want to have to pay for this straight away, in case it's an unsuccessfull venture!

Does anyone have experience in this field?!

if you mean a certain mailbox/account just for sending emails to a group of people that always stays the same? you can use address book and mail for that, just setup another email to mail from, setup all the reciopients of the emails as a group in address bnook, then email the group.

No I mean like a list, which people are subscribed to. There's then a central address that people can send messages too, which then get automatically fowarded to all the subscribers.
