I have tried downloading Micr Office 08 for mac on my 2008 Black MacBook and have received this message when choosing a location for download:

"You cannot install Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac on this volume. This software requires Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or higher."

I ran the sw_vers command under Terminal to determine what version of Mac OS X I have and it turns out I have version 10.5.6. What am I to do now? I have the necessary requirements and it still won't allow me to download the program.

Thank you.

What version of Mac Office 2008 are you trying to install? Also, are you installing direct from a CD set or did you purchase the software from Microsoft's download site?

Regards.

Let's double check your version using a different method. Click on the Apple in the top left and select About this Mac. I'm sure the version number is the same, but check it anyway just to be sure.

I just rechecked my version of OS X and I have version 10.5.6. I'm trying to install the home&student edition of office mac 2008. Also I'm installing it directly through a cd. Sorry for posting all of this info before. Hope this helps

There's no reason as far as I can see that it should be giving you that error.

Mac Office 2008 (all versions) are compatible with Leopard (10.5.X) and should install without difficulty.

Is the CD of the Home and Student edition a genuine MS boxed copy? Not a copy made from someone else?

Regards.

Not sure if this will work or not, but it's a work around at the very least. Try downloading the trial version and then using the keys that came with the CD?

I am running Office 2007 and had Apple install so you may need to take your software to a local Apple store. It will certainly be less frustrating.

I am having with WORD, which was once working and now is not. Anyone else having this problem?
