Macbook 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo hardrive upgrade

I am wondering about upgrading my Macbook 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo hardrive. I have a 120gig HD, but need more room. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I am wondering about a 320gig 7200rpm or would there be problems.

I put a 7200RPM 320GB HD in my MB and haven't had any regrets. From my experiences, the claims to excessive heat are unfounded. It does run warmer but no where near what I read some people experience. When I reinstalled OSX and copied all my files back over, the temperature didn't get over 35C-37C IIRC. The specs for my HD states that the operating temperature is -0C (it actually says -0) to 60C so I've never had to worry about overheating. Right now, it's at 33C. I also haven't noticed any major changes in battery life which was another concern I saw. Then again, I usually have an outlet nearby when I use my MB.

So, after using this HD for a while, I would have to say that I am more than satisfied. Any particular drive you're looking at?

I'm using the Western Digital Scorpio Black 320gb 7200rpm. I have nothing but positive things to say about this drive, no heat or battery concerns. Another option to consider is the WD Scorpio Blue 500gb. While it is 5400rpm, the comparison results I've seen show this drive's performance is fairly comparable to the Scorpio Black 320gb. The cost is about the same for both options.

Certainly doable and very simple. You need a couple tools and something to clone you're old drive or the install discs to do a fresh install.

If your Macbook is still covered by an Applecare warranty, is DIY a void option?

Also, how much better are the 7200rpm drives?

Replacing the drive does not void the warranty. I've read reviews that claim the 7200rpm drives are not much faster in practice than the 5400rpm drives. I went for the largest drive I could get - 500 GB.

actually I was out of town shooting video for my project, and didn't have my password to connect to mac-forums. I just really wanted to thank the people that helped.
