I have a Samsung external dvd writer (SE-S240) with Lightscribe, which will not appear on my iMac (intel mac). It works fine on a PC. Do I need to download special drivers, etc.???

Hmm... I couldn't find a Samsung SE-S240 but did find a Samsung SE-S204, is that the one you have?
Have you tried plugging it into another USB port on your iMac? Can you see it all from Disk Utility? And last question - does it come with a power supply?
