I ran software update and it beached balled and I had to force quit, software update would not relaunch after that nor would any other app! So I tried to restart and It would not restart so I power button of and restarted, I ran the update with no problems. What would have caused this and what should I do? I need some help please.

It may have been due to a non-responsive component of the update manager. If your Mac works fine after the reboot, you don't have to worry too much. I would recommend you to run Disk Utility or Onyx to make sure the permissions are all set correctly. If you are keen to find the cause of the "beach ball", the log file is located @ /var/log/system.log
