WYSIWYG html editor

Hi, my first post!

I'm brand new to the glorious world of Mac, and am in the process of shifting everything across from my old PC to the sexy new piece of kit.

I have created and maintain a website, built using FrontPage (I know, I know!) but am eager to move in to the present and use a decent editor that will serve all my needs. I've had a look at iWeb, and whilst it seems very user friendly also maybe a bit of an entry level programme? I'm also told that I won't be able to edit my previous html files with it?

Whilst I'm reasonably proficient, i.e. better than Joe Bloggs, I am by no means a webdesigner with coding ability of any note.

So what I'm after is a programme that ticks the following boxes:

• Allows me to get right on with continuing to maintain my site using my existing files.

• Similar format to FrontPage in that it strikes a balance between use of html code, but also the more basic publisher style web designing for when I need it.

• Reasonably cheap, but well supported with updates.

I've heard Adobe Dreamweaver is the way to go, but I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Having 10 years in Frontpage, the only one I've found that's comparable is Dreamweaver... and you'll love it.

I tried Rapidweaver and NVU, but don't waste your time on them.

If you want a "decent" WYSIWYG editor, iWeb is more or less eliminated (immediately). Dreamweaver is probably the closest to what you want, but to fine-tune things you'll need to know HTML anyways.

What is your current site like? Is it a wordpress blog, a simple homepage, or what?

thanks guys, DreamWeaver is looking to be 'the one'. Any idea of its price? As I type the adobe online-shop is down.

It's a website for a political organisation, so whilst not anything too spectacular has video, photos, various other goings on. FrontPage has served it fine, bar the obvious problems every now and again with IE and other browsers differing on how they display it.

Check out RapidWeaver. It's not nearly as complex, costly or capable as Dreamweaver, but it beats the heck out of iWeb.

I've downloaded demos of both, I'll let you know which I opt for!

I've just seen that I'm eligible for the Adobe educational discount, so DreamWeaver is only £90.

I've gone for Dreamweaver, which is quite reasonable with the educational discount. Thanks to all who replied!

KomPozer is nice and free, but it's pretty basic.

It's also in beta, and buggy.

I'd also check out Freeway and Freeway Pro (http://www.softpress.com/). Those two are somewhere in between RapidWeaver and DreamWeaver (in price and features) and some say more inline with what Frontpage does.
