• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

What format should I edit my videos in on Final Cut Studio 2? I want my computer to run fast but I also want the finished product to have very good quality to play on a large TV....

Which is better to edit in? .AVI or DV ???

Which is better to "finish" or save your final video in? .AVI or DV ??? (For BEST quality)

Thanks in advance!

go dv since it is more widely accepted by multiple formaats...save your files as animation file...it ts not compressed but it will be huge. I had a 12 min vid saved in this codec and it was 19gb.

Edit in the format you originally recorded them in. NTSC-DV or PAL-DV. Saving out to Animation codec does not improve quality. What you put in originally, is what you get out. Save it as a self-contained QT movie, it won't look any better than that.

FCP can export AVI, but won't edit in AVI.

If you need to save on file size, H.264 will give you smaller file size, with as good of a quality as Animation codec. BTW, Animation codec is compressed, just not much. Uncompressed codec is the only uncompressed codec (literally). But H.264 will give you small file size with killer video and audio quality.

Saving out as a less compressed codec as you edited in will not add anything to your quality, it's just a big myth.
