While my computer was sleeping, I yanked my external hard drive out. I thought that it would be okay at that point. Well, the files I added are not showing up.

That is not the weird part. Although the files aren't there, they are still taking up the space on the hard drive. I must have added 80 GB before this happened. In fact, there are spaces reserved for the missing folders, and when I try to use the "Arrange by" command, the gaps between the folders remain, as if the new folders are actually there.

It is NTFS formatted. I know I can reformat it, but there is more data on the external hard drive than available on my computer. Moving everything off and then back on would be a great hassle. Is there anything I can do to make these invisible folders show up, or at restore the hard drive to an earlier point?

Thanks.
