Quicktime Player Wont Play Stream

Hi. I'm using Nicecast at the moment to stream some audio for a University project. I'm currently doing test's on my own mac to get the streaming working. iTunes works perfectly when the stream is password protected and not and so does VLC (they're the only one's i've tried). Quicktime player does not seem to work when I password protect the stream though. Can anyone please help?
