Howdy folks,

I'm struggling to install update HT3397. I've downloaded it several times without drama, but upon restart I get the above error message a few seconds into installation.

A couple of questions: How do I get it to install the update correctly? Failing this, how do I save the update so at least I don't repeatedly download all 449 MB?

Cheers!

I had the same problem trying to update. I ended up getting the Combo Updater here:

Mac OS X 10.5.7 Combo Update

...and it installed just fine. In three years of using OS X and dozens of these kinds of updates, I've never had to do that. So, there must be something with the automatic update that it does.

I find it best to always use the combo update.

Thanks loads folks, that really got it done without hassle. Much appreciated. Can anyone tell me the difference between the downloads? Why aren't all updates offered this way?

Thanks again.

The combo updates are for anyone who has any version of 10.5 (10.5 - 10.5.6). The 10.5.7 update on the other hand will only work on machines with 10.5.6 (in other words, the previous version). The benefit of the non-combo update is the size - they are much smaller. For instance, the 10.5.7 update is 442MB while the 10.5.7 combo update is 729MB.
