Hi All,

Long time reader, first time writing here, so any advice would be great.

Months ago I completed a project in FCE, and backed up on a separate HD. The client has come back to me wanting some changes. Problem is i get Offline Media on my project. I can't find the clips either to reconnect and after may hours of looking, I assume something went wrong in the Back up.

I have been able to capture the project using Handbrake, however FCE wont import / play the clip. How can i get the dvd into a readable format for FCE? Im stuck here and the clock is ticking.

Some ideas...

I would index the drives you think you moved the content to, if they aren't already and then do a search using Spotlight, assuming you are using 10.4 or newer.

Do a Get Info on a clip to get an actual file name to search for, excluding the path information.

Another option may be to do a Batch recapture if the content came from a tape and you can get that tape. If the tape has time breaks in it than that might make it difficult.

Taking the content from the DVD is the last solution to consider because of loss of quality issues.

If QuickTime Pro can playback the imported Handbrake content, then save it in DV or AIC format with 48Khz audio.

Another tool that may be helpful is MPEG Streamclip.

I hope you've learned you lesson regarding backups. You need to be able bring them back. ;) Also, drives are not the best backup medium.
