Not 100% sure if they fix cracks in the palm rest for free, but I know they fix cracks on the plastic casing.

My wife had cracks in her White MacBook palm rest for over a year and when she took it in they replaced it with no questions asked. We're in the US. I know of several others that had the same experience so just give them a call.

Take it on in to Apple. I can't recall anyone reporting back negatively.
(I am getting a little senile though, so...)

I'm sure the Apple store will repair it for you - my son had the same thing done on his 11-month old MacBook (Milton Keynes store) - repaired the same day!

This is a common problem among the white macbooks, and everyone that I have ran across was as long as they warranty is still active they will replace.

I took mine to the Apple Store in Chicago a couple of weeks ago, and as soon as I showed him the cracks, the guy at the Genius Bar said, "Ahhhh, yes." They fixed it for free, even though the warranty expired, and it was incredibly fast...90 minutes after I left they called me to say it was done.

BTW -- they actually take the entire plastic piece AND the keyboard and replace both, so if you have any stuffbak.com stickers or anything of the sort, you'll lose 'em. (Thankfully, stuffbak.com offered a replacement sticker. :) )

Yeah, this is a common problem with the MacBooks that use the polycarbonate case. As others have stated, Apple will fix this for free. I just hope this has been remedied with the latest revision of the polycarbonate model.

Oh, one more thing...I asked the Genius Bar guy if they were replacing it with the exact same kind of plastic, and he said yep.

MODS -- could one of these "my MacBook is cracked" threads be a sticky, or make a new sticky of it??
