• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

and I can't use it with my IMovie 6.0.3. So I guess I'm supposed to buy $200 worth of software just to be able to use it. That sucks.

Did you buy the SR-47 Handycam? I bought this camera from Best Buy not long ago on a promise from the folks there that this camera would work with my Mac. This was not true. Here is how I fixed this.
1. Download MPEG Streamclip from the apple website
2. Download QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac from the Apple website ($20)
3. Install Playback Component
This will allow you to both view your videos and also to convert them into any other format MPEG-4, Quicktime, etc...

The first mistake you made was buying anything with Sony on it if you want it to work with anything else which isn't Sony.
They are very proprietary based whether you are on a Mac or a non-Sony PC.

That's such a stupid comment. I have a PDx-10 which works perfectly with my Mac and versions of Windows I'm running.

Plus, there is no such thing as a Sony based-PC - they just don't exist. GMtv use Sony built cameras and I'm sure they don't complain about compatibility issues between their editing streams!
