Hi all after having problems with 10.5.7 I have reverted back to 10.5.6 but now iphoto has gone.Any ideas what to do?? Also been trying to upload iworks trial version but doesnt seem to let me until I upgrade software, however I do not want to upload 10.5.7. It does say you need 10.5.6 or above which I have, so why wont it upload, any ideas please.

One other thing since reloading 10.5.6 software, my itunes purchases have gone, any ideas how to get them back without re-paying for them?? many thanks

If you did a fresh install rather than an 'archive and install' and have no backups, all the data you had on that drive is now gone.

What Mac do you have? What disk did you use to re-install 10.5.6?

If your Mac shipped with Leopard, then iLife (which includes iPhoto) is going to be on the 2nd disk of the set that came with your Mac.

upload? do you mean download or install?

I had to re install 10.5.6, I did install both discs, just looked at the disc 2 doesnt say anything about ilife on it something about tools etc. I have now uploaded to 10.5.7 , and all ilife stuff is there except iphoto, so its a puzzel to me.

iphoto app and library are gone

I upgraded to 10.5.7 the other day, and let the updates run their course.
Today I tried to open up iPhoto for the first time since the upgrade, and it's gone.

The iPhoto app has disappeared form /Applications
Also, I had my library on an external drive, and it is gone too.

I definitely didn't delete it.

There are 40 gig of photos on there, spanning 10 years
I am backup-obsessed, but for whatever reason they're missing from Time Machine, too :(

iTunes & GarageBand are fine, and have no problem syncing with my iPhone.

iPhoto came pre-loaded, so I don't even have a disc :(

Does anyone have any idea what I should do?

time machine has just found iphoto.app
but no sign of my library, yet
i hope having it on the external isn't the problem :(
i sense a multi-terabyte RAID in my near future

If the iPhoto app was backed up by Time Machine to your external drive, that means that the library and your photos have also been backed up. Use Spotlight to search - you may have to go back in time to when the library was first copied in making the backup.

Regards.

yes, but no

The iPhoto app lived on the MacBook's built-in disk.
The iPhoto Library lived on the external drive.
Time Machine did backup the app, but did not backup the Library.

I have used Spotlight.
I have used regex and the Terminal (i'm a programmer).
I have tried FileSalvage -- it took about 7 hours to go through the 500 gig external, but didn't find anything called "iPhoto Library".
I am currently trying MediaRecover. It estimates that it will take another 4-6 hours to finish its scan.
Will update you in the morning...

still going

Over 24 hours later, and MediaRecover is still running...
Current Status:

Volume Type: HFS+
Scan Sector No: 29,897,488
File(s) Found: 51,028
Time Left: 06:27:55 (yesterday at this time it said 06:45:32)

*Hopefully* those 51,000 files are mostly large jpegs from my Canon!
