Hi,

I am in process to switch to MAc from PC, and I am hesitating to buy a mbp 15" or 17" version 2.93 Mhz for both of them. I compared both of the configurations and their is no much difference except the battery that last longer, and maximum Ram that we can add on the 17" version. My questions are :
1. is it possible to have 2 x 4GB on a 15" version,
2. it does worse to buy the 17" when the 15" offers equal power for the same cpu?

Thank you in advance Mac community
Hanna

1)Yes you can have 8GB in the 15".
2)It depends how you plan to use the machine. Give us a little more information first.

Too many...
You "can" have 8gb in there meaning that you can stick it in and it will fit, but it wont work right! The most memory a 15" pro can have without having problems is 6gb. To me, I believe that the 17 looks a little funny with its huge size compared to the 15.

The newest model MBP (by that I mean unibody 2.66GHz and it's upgraded counterpart) can run 8GB of RAM. I have seen and used it with over 6GB of RAM used. The 2.53Ghz however, does not work.

Get the 15", take the savings from the 17" and get yourself a 22-24" widescreen monitor for xplane.

Yeah agreed. If you plane on travelling a lot then get the 17" if you are gaming. I have the 15" with a monitor.

I have the last refreshed model of the last generation of 15" MBP (March '08) and since upgraded to 4GB RAM. I can get two 3GB RAM's and bump up to to 6GB RAM total?!

No one makes 3 GB RAM sticks. For 6 GB you would need a 2 GB and a 4 GB stick.

Yeah there are no 3GB sticks. You do lose the DDR rate but you can still benefit from 6GB a little. I will lightly just buy another mac instead. I think an imac is needed in my house.

Old MBPs and the 2.4/2.53 support 4 official 6 unofficially. The 2.66 supports 8GBs.
