I'm not completly sure if this is where I should post this, but how can i update my Mac G3 Tower from 350 mhz to 400 mhz or even higher if possible (I would like 600...)? I need to know so i can put iLife 05 on it. it has no OS right now, but I'm putting Panther on it. how can i do this, because the main reason I want to update it is TO HAVE iLIFE. THANK YOU very much for any suggestions, answers, or links!!!

Think seriously (as I've had cause to do - see my Mac specs) about the economics of upgrading the G3/350 to 1 GHZ vs buying a used iMac G3 (which I did eventually).

I'd have stuck with my G3/350 - a very good machine - if I could've justified spending (what was) US$130 (about NZ$220 + postage, total $250). In the end I bought an iMac G3/600 for NZ$180, and I don't have what can be the hassle of an external monitor to lug about.

I have a PowerMac G3 (originally 350) with a 600MHz G4 in it, but I think you're better off selling it and getting something newer. Even if you have a fast CPU, there will still be bottlenecks with the RAM, FSB, etc.

Not sure if this helps but....
I just finished working with a similar problem. I've been using a 300 mhz G3 b&w with a 60g HD running panther to play music and manage long downloads for a few months now. I had so much fun working on it, that when I saw a 400mhz on ebay, I spontaneously bought it. Naively I initially thought it might be as simple as moving the processor from one machine to another, but after some reading I learned that it wasn't. Long story short, I just fixed up the 400mhz with a 120g HD, and the best ram from both machines. The machine also had a much better graphics card and a DVD drive, so this saved me the trouble of transferring that. It doesn't run much faster than the old one, but the difference is that it's running Tiger.
Good luck!
