What are you currently using to expand these files? I use Stuffit expander, and it seems to work for pretty much everything I need to expand. You can always try Unarchiver. Then of course there is winrar for Mac. I find it complicated to use though. >_<"

Just get UnRarX - Mac OS X RAR Extraction Utility if the unarchiver won't work.
It's very very easy to use!
Bear in mind that the files may be password protected depending on what they are.
Also, if you have a lot of .rar files in one folder, always open the last one first, as it usually unzips all if there are several sections making up one big file like a movie or software.

Another alternative is an app called The Unarchiver

Once you've tried multiple unarchivers, the next step is to believe that there is an issue with the file itself.

Definitely. The Unarchiver has never failed me, except with *encrypted* RAR files.
