Classic Ipod Wiring Question

hey my friend dropped his 80GB ipod in his hot tub. When he gave it to me it was dead and he had it cracked open. (pics below) I put it in rice for 2 days, plugged it in and the screen worked! Soon after a Big Red X showed up on the screen with the link apple.com/support/ipod. Now I was wondering if it did anything wrong, where does this wire go, if anywhere, that is circled in the pic. Any help would be awesome!

I believe that goes from the battery to the motherboard. If you put the cable you have highlighted in the space between the two rubber pads, you should see the connector in the vicinity of where the flex cable is.
