solution to safari crashing associated with acidsearch

I just figured out a bug I have been having with Safari for months! I had installed a plugin called Acidsearch last year, which allows you to add search functionality other than google, but then after a Safari update, Safari began crashing all the time.

I found that lots of others were having this problem, and some had pinned it on Acidsearch, which looked likely because the developer stopped writing updates back in 2007 (www.pozytron.com). It really had me suspicious when I the plist file for pozytron kept reincarnating after I deleated it. I couldn't not for the life of me get rid of acidsearch.

Finally, I found a genious at applecare, who helped me locate the source of the problem. If you're having this problem, you need to delete a folder called SIMBL under library>inputmanagers (I'm pretty sure about this location, but now that I've deleted it, I can't be 100% sure that's where it was).

There are other apps/plug-ins that use SIMBL. You might try looking in the plug-ins folder in SIMBL and trashing the plugin instead of the whole folder.

I went for months trying to find this problem. Discovered it this week from another forum. The SIMBL folder was in library/application support. Deleted the entire folder and was able to install Safari 4 Beta with no problems.
