my friend is willing to sell her mac she got 2 years ago. There is some minor wear and tear on the cover, and there is a crack in the bottom right corner. Other than that it seems fine

How much do you guys think this mac is worth?

All i know about the specs, are they are the most basic specs from 2 years ago.

(I know i can get the crack repaired for free, but she doesnt know that ;D

So I am guessing a White MacBook Core2Duo 1.83ghz, 512MB of RAM and Tiger installed, with a Combo-Drive? Or if it was a mid-2007, it's possible a 2.0ghz with 1GB of RAM.

So I think that Mac is worth $500 - $550.

hmm.. really you think so? I think she got it around August of 2007, anyways. But I was guessing it was around 200 - 250, but 500 seems a bit pricey..

Have you owned a Mac before? They hold their value well (something MS don't tell you in their 'Macs are crap value' ads).

If it's a late '07 model with a gig of RAM, 60GB HDD and a 2ghz C2D, then yes, really, it's worth about $500, maybe just a little less if the case is scratched up.

$200 - $250 might get you an iBook G4.

$400 if it's in POOR condition, $500 if it's in average condition. $300 if it's broke, lol

and no, if yer looking to sell it, i wouldn't bother with the RAM.

2GBs is the Maximum Ram. If you want maximum loveliness, install Leopard (if it's not there already) and then install 2GBs of RAM ('cos it's so cheap and makes a difference usually).

Doesn't leopard cost like a hundred bucks? Or is there some other way to get it?

It may be on the Machine, but otherwise it's $109 on Amazon. Perhaps just wait for Snow Leopard in late summer.

If it was bought after October of 2007, it definitely has Leopard.

Just go to Mac2Sell - Guide to used Mac & iPod - Evaluation - Argus Mac, iPod, iPhone Occasion to get a rough price of value for your Mac. You'll probably have to subtract some now that the new Macs have come out as they haven't updated their listings to take this into account (especially considering this will probably push the prices of some models down, ie: who would want to pay $1100-1200 for a used 2.0GHz Macbook Unibody when they can for $1199 get a new Macbook Pro Unibody that is essentially the same with more features?).
