hello!

My Finder started acting up. On logging into my account, it launches, and then crashes and relaunches. This goes on as an infinite process. I can use other programs from the dock, but can't use finder as it keeps relaunching itself. I'm posting this message from the Guest Account on my computer. I did repair premissions, but no luck. help plz

After all these are tried if there are still worries, try restarting in single user terminal (restart hold Apple S) and in there type /sbin/fsck -fy

Well you have a point there, I did not think about that. While you are in single user mode though you can take a gander. "cat <path to log> |less" then q to get back to the command prompt.

Since the guest account works it does not seem to be the finder itself that is the problem.... And i lost where I was going with that. Time to go to bed.

It will check the file system for problems and fix them. Keep repeating until the ***FILE SYSTEM CHANGED*** stops showing exit. or restart can be used after

OK this is starting to freak me out now. Even fancy stuff like "/sbin/fsck -fy" that witeshark mentioned is not helping. It is clearly something in this account, as Finder runs fine in the Guest account. HAAALP!!

Have you run crons? Download onyx or cocktail and run the all the maintenance scripts... if you can't download and install anything, there is a way to do this with the terminal as well...(search for it...)

If all else fails: Time to archive and reinstall?

I can run Onyx, its in my Dock. What do I click once I launch it? There are many sections. What do I run from there?

Also, what is Archive and Install. I assume it back up all files and reinstalls the OS?

I've run all crons and verified and repaired disk permissions in Onyx, but the problem persists. Someone must have a clue what the **** is going on here...??

No luck. I created a new user account - this works fine. I tried to shift all my data to the other account. Now when I playing with my root account, I somehow managed to mess up my root password. Don't have it anymore. I have a master password but I guess that wont reset the root password. Anyways, now I am desperately trying to access my files somehow. I'm in the account where my files are, but the finder doesn't work. I'm in deep deep trouble. Someone has to help me please. Any info on resetting the root password please?

Restart in single user terminal (restart Apple S) type again /sbin/fsck -y Then type /sbin/SystemStarter (get Netinfo) Then type passwd root (lets you over ride), or to get the hash type nidump passwd but now you need to crack the hash, not good
