I am using the new Mac Mini model 120GB Mac mini (MB463LL/A). The "help" page says

"To hear sounds from your computer played through an external device:
Make sure the device is properly connected to your computer.

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Sound.
Click Output, and then select the device you want to hear sound through.

To listen through your computer’s built-in speakers, select “Internal speakers.
To listen to external speakers or headphones that are connected to the headphone jack, select Headphones.
To listen through external USB speakers, select your speakers in the list."

But when i follow this instruction, I don't find the "internal speakers" option, would anyone pls tell me why is that?

The Mini has ONE very small speaker. It really is not made to play music or anything, but I am sure it will work. Let me check my mini and get back to you.

Ok update, with the speakers plugged into the output jack it says Headphones on the output tab of the Sound preference panel. If i Unplug the speakers in around 1-2 seconds it changes to Internal Speaker and the Tinny sound comes from the little speaker inside the mini. It's automatic. If yours is not working I would take it into Apple.
