This concept is totally new to me. As I was in the computer lab at my college, I noticed that when I opened my "Macintosh HD," I was able to view peoples' names. What was that all about? Obviously, they must have been the owners of a Mac right?

Where exactly do you see these names, in the users folder or on the network?

I think the last time I saw this was under "Places" on my "Macintosh HD." It could have been the network...since students can connect via the Internet through the school's wireless network.

The Mac is just seeing who else is on the local network, unless you have allowed Personal File Sharing in the Sharing preferences, nobody will be able to connect to you and vise-versa
