Hi

I'm new to this forum. Glad to meet everyone. My question is this. Am I the only person who finds spotlight not very good? I can't seem to get it to find files which I know are somewhere in my mac. I search and it returns some results which are correct but very often omits the results I want.

Am I doing something wrong or is this common?

I run Leopard 10.5.6

Thanks

Willie

If you have had your Mac a number of months and are finding that spotlight is not behaving try downloading the excellent free maintenance app MainMenu

Santa Software | MainMenu

That will let you rebuild the database. If you install and run MainMenu and nothing seems to happen, it puts a + icon in the top menu bar, you can run its tasks from a pull down menu .

Not very good compared to what? Windows search? Hah!

I've found that Spotlight finds what I'm looking for the vast majority of the time.

Go into System Preferences / Spotlight

Make sure the type of items you want returned in your searches is checked.
Also, drag around the different types into the order you would like to see.

Try typing the type of file you are looking for into the search. Adding "doc" to the search gives Word files priority. Adding "folder" to the search gives folders priority.

You can also type a math problem and it will give you the answer...
