Wierd problem with apps folder

I'm not sure what I can do here about this but here is a screenshot of the problem.

How do I rid the menu of the .aud files??????

Do you know how they got there? Which application put them there?

A quick google search says they are WinAmp media files. Do you have Windows and Winamp anywhere on that Mac?

If the files are not important to you, just mark them all and throw them in the trash.

No. Every installed app has a file with the extension .aud

I am not going to just delete them.

It seems like I'm showing hidden files or something??

And no there is no Winamp OR WINDOWS installed on this computer.

Thats very odd. Most of them seem to have the same names as your apps, how big are these files? Are they locked? Can you delete them?

You may want to re-install OSX if all else fails.

I unhid all hidden files and no .aud files at all.

You are not showing hidden files. Well, you may be. But those are not some hidden or system OS X files. They are not any kind of OS X file type.

.aud is an audio file and/or an Audacity project file.

I'd create a folder on the desktop - call it AUD - and move all those into it - then move the folder to the trash - don't empty the trash yet - reboot the machine - see if they're recreated - does the machine work fine without them? - play with all your apps and recheck after each one to see if any of these reappear - after a couple of days, empty the trash if there have been no ill effects

I just saved a file in Audacity and it's extension is .AUP just for the record.

I searched all over google and nothing about anything .aud that is part of OSX.

Yeah, same here.

Yea I have searched for this for about 4 months really. This is on my 2.6 imac.

Never had to re-install the os or anything. maybe it's time to.
