• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Capturing on different camera = no video?

I went out and shot a bunch of interviews this weekend with my friend's camera (I forgot what it is). I usually use my other friend's XL-2, but he was busy with it this weekend. I have a cheaper JVC camera that I've always used for capturing the stuff I shot on the friend's XL-2, and it's always worked fine.

Last week, I used one of my school's high-end DV/HD cameras on the DV setting to shoot a short sequence. When all was said and done, there was 15 minutes on the tape. I rewound it on that camera and it looked fine. I went to capture from my camera... no video. I thought it was a mistake on my part, so we re-shot the sequence on my JVC, captured, editted, went fine.

Used the friend's camera (NOT the XL-2, the camera he uses, as I said, I forget what it is but it's higher-end) this weekend, came back, tried to capture the three tapes I shot this weekend... same issue, blue screen, never gives me anything to capture. The tape rewinds, so it was running time onto the tape, and I believe there's timecode, but nothing shows when capturing with my JVC.

Anyone know what's up? I wanna try and capture with the camera it was shot on, but he's using it tonight. I'm starting to panic.
