Is there a way to recover the document that was emptied from the Trash

Hi,

my friend has written a document, which he has lost by emptying his trash. Is there a way to recover the document by scouting inside his recycle bin using third party software or other applications etc?

He's using the Tiger OS if that helps too, (I think it's OS 10.4)
