I use a wireless linksys router WRT54G, compatible with Wireless B (802.1) and G (54) and use it with my Windows laptop, will it work with my PB 17/1.5?

If your router is set to distribute IP's and it broadcasts your SSID then your PowerBook should pick it up automatically.
It, most likely, will be about 80-90% of the signal strength you get from a wired connection, especially if you're only 20 feet from it. I use my PowerBook on our back deck, which is about 90-100 feet from my router and I get about 80% signal.
Still more than enough for whatever you want to do.
