having a spiking CPU

I am having a spiking CPU and it seems to be because of this thing called a kernal-task. This is a recent problem.

Would say it is not that. Need to scroll down further and see what is using the CPU cycles.

You're sitting at 100% and kernel_task is only using 1.4%, Firefox at 18.6, etc.

It looks like its more a problem with something called ReportCrash.. It keeps popping up at 50.5%-90.5% of my CPU.

Look at the log in Library/Logs/CrashReporter.

See if you can identify what's causing it there. Hopefully it will be software.

I dont have anything that is coming up more recently then the 14th of April... and this pops up every 3 seconds or so.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

1st thing is re-boot. Need to determine what program is crashing.

Try the solutions in this thread if a reboot doesn't work.

If that doesn't work, we will go through processes one by one. What do you have set as login items right now?

You can also try checking the console found in Applications/Utilities.

See if it's log will give you a hint.
